Each week leading up to International Women’s Day on 8 March 2023 we will use prompts and references to explore themes of gender identity, women’s activism, self-portraiture, and women’s place in society as it stands today. We will use artworks from movements that fought for women’s cultural liberation and resisted gender inequality as inspiration for writing exercises. Participants will be encouraged to find their own direction. There is no right or wrong response to any exercise. Materials will be available for writing tasks to be combined with collage, painting, and printing. We can explore how we might create a new ‘visual language’ by blending text and image. At the end of each workshop there will be time for discussion and an optional sharing of the work made.

At the end of the five workshops there will be the opportunity to contribute a piece of work made to a collective publication which will be launched on International Women’s Day.

When completing the booking form please let us know of any access needs that we may be able to help with. Travel costs can be provided, and childcare can be arranged if needed.

*Our use of the word ‘women’ is inclusive of Trans and Intersex women. These workshops are also open to non-binary people who are comfortable in a space that centres the experience of women.
