Employment and Training

Everything that Govanhill Baths does is by the community, for the community. This starts with our workforce, and we are committed to ensuring our staff body is representative of the wide range of communities who make their homes in Govanhill. We see the refurbishment work as a great opportunity to make good on these commitments. Therefore, during the works we have teamed up with Clark Contracts Limited to offer the following opportunities:

.

  • Two local long-term unemployed people will be taken on to work on the refurbishment, with the chance to gain permament employment with the contractor.
  • Local young people will be able to gain work experience and training in construction and conservation work, as well as office-based roles, through their Academy.
  • All vacancies will be locally advertised.
  • Local businesses and social enterprises will be given priority for supply-chain contracts.

.

In addition, we intend to fund lifesaving training for a number of local young people. The lifesaving award is a nationally recognised qualification which will allow the trainees to pursue employment at the baths, and elsewhere, once works are completed.

.

All updates about employment and training will be posted on social media, in our newsletter, and in the What’s New section of the website.

.

Once the works are complete, we aim to:
  • Hire staff who live in the local area whenever possible
  • Hire staff who speak a wide range of community languages
  • Offer an annual placement for local college or University student to gain experience in museum work
