Getting Exercise
.
The refurbished baths building will really help to fill the gap in local facilities for exercise. All of the activities offered in the new building have been chosen by the community, and will include casual swimming, segregated swimming (e.g. for women or faith groups: you can read more here), swimming lessons, group fitness, self defence, and more.
.
The baths will also include a fully equipped gym, with flexible pricing including Pay as You Go, meaning people do not have to commit to membership. Women-only and other segregated gym nights will ensure that everyone is able to use the facilities. In addition, local schools will be able to host their swimming classes at the baths, continuing Govanhill Baths’ long tradition of school swimming classes and competitions. Currently local schools have to travel to the Gorbals, Castlemilk, or even the West End, so having swimming facilities on the doorstep will be a great help.
.
After all the hard work in the pool, gym, or at a class, the Turkish Suite is the perfect way to relax tired muscles and wind down. The Suite will include a sauna, steam room, and plunge pool, and will run regular spa nights, together with wellbeing classes such as yoga. Of course, it is important that such state-of-the-art facilities remain affordable for local people. To read more about how we will ensure our exercise facilities are affordable, please click here.
