Eating Well

A key part of any healthy lifestyle is a good diet. Eating the right mix of foods can really help to boost mental and physical wellbeing. However, the rising cost of food means that it is often difficult for many people to have a healthy and balanced diet. At the same time, the UK wastes over 10 million tons of food every year. Much of this food could have been eaten.

In 2020 we decided to act, by creating The People’s Pantry, a membership-based initiative which offers subsidised food to local people. The food mostly comes from FareShare, a company which redistributes food which would otherwise have gone to waste. At the Pantry, members will pay a small annual fee (around £3.50) to join. They will then be able to purchase around £15 worth of groceries each week for £2.50.

The Pantry is currently based at 488 Cathcart Road. Once the refurbishment of the baths is complete, this landmark organisation will move into permanent premises inside the baths building. You can read more about the amazing work of the Pantry here.
