The second of our Wellbeing and Archive collaborations, this workshop series will combine beginners pottery techniques with an exploration of our baths building. Draw inspiration from a guided tour of the building, then learn different techniques to create a piece of work, which will be featured as part of an exhibition at the end of the project. No experience is necessary: come and have a go in a supportive and relaxing environment.
These workshops are being run by Govanhill Baths’ Community Engagement Trainee Beulah, in collaboration with Govanhill Baths’ ceramics tutor Frances.
Frances Diver has been part of the Govanhill Baths Community Trust since it was formed, from the Save Our Pool campaign which began in 2001. She qualified in ceramics at Glasgow School of Art, has a Masters in Education and, after a stint working in a commercial pottery, taught art in schools, and outreach facilities in the southside of Glasgow for many years, and ran community classes in Pottery skills. She set up Govanhill Baths Ceramics in 2016 as a pop-up and part of the Baths’ Wellbeing programme and is delighted that its success has led to a permanent workshop at the Deep End.
