Community Outreach
Rags to Riches provides affordable community outreach services for organisations in and around Glasgow. We work with groups to deliver bespoke educational and training services that are not only beneficial to building participants’ confidence and skill development, but also raise awareness of the importance of the circular economy, creativity and upcycling in the fight to save the planet.
We offer an extensive variety of community outreach programmes for organisations including:
- Sewing, knitting, weaving and macrame workshops
- Furniture making/upcycling workshops
- Professional and start-up training
- Consultations and presentations about upcycling in the community
- Events and campaigning
- Public art installations

Previous Projects & Events
Over the years we have organised and hosted a brilliant collection of fun, creative and exciting events with upcycling and community engagement at their core.
From upcycled fashion shows with emerging and established designers to entire orchestras made from rubbish, we look to waste to deliver key events and art installations that raise awareness of the importance of creativity in the fight for our environment, social inclusion and empowerment.

An upcycled fashion show and performances set against one of Altronica's installations.

This is Not A Craft Fair 2016
A craft fair aimed at engaging local upcycling communities, whilst sharing, showcasing and selling upcycled art and crafts.

Stalled Spaces 2014 – 2015
The redesign of an underused outdoor space using upcycled materials on Calder Street in Govanhill.

Refugee Week 2015
A series of furniture upcycling workshops with themes pertinent to the Refugee Week ‘Welcome’ theme.

Mandela Day 2015
The development of volunteer-led activities for the Hidden Gardens' ‘Mandela Day’ at the Tramway.

Zero Waste Scotland Litter & Fly-tipping Community Fund 2015
A project focused on creatively tackling litter and fly-tipping within Govanhill.

This Is Not A Fashion Show 2014
Glasgow’s first Upcycled Textile Design show, with models of all shapes and sizes adorning innovative upcycled garments.

Stalled Spaces 2013 – 2014
The redesign of an underused outdoor space using upcycled materials to create a 'bird hotel' in the 'Peace Garden'.
