Intro to Joint making with Hand tools – Tuesdays from 20th June (2x sessions)

Learn how to create two classic woodworking joints in this new joint making workshop

Hosted at our woodwork and upcycling hub at The Deep End, in this 2 session course you will learn how to create classic woodworking joints with hand tools: the half lap joint and a mortise and tenon joint.

These joints are staples in the woodworking world, used for timber frames, chairs and cabinets. Learning these will do wonders to increase the strength and professionalism of your making projects. In this workshop you will make a test-piece with these joints and learn how to use measuring and marking tools, chisels, saws and be shown different varieties of mortise and tenon joints along with help joints and where these can be used in woodworking.

What you will learn:

• Session one:
  In the first session you will learn two classic woodworking joints with hand tools: the half lap joint and a mortise and tenon joint.
• Session two:
  Build from what you learnt in session 1 to learn two more classic woodworking joints: the bridle joint, commonly used for frames, seat tops and the dovetail joint, an incredibly strong joint for drawers and boxes. Again using hand tools, you will make these joints with measuring and marking tools, chisels and saws.
