We’re thrilled to announce that Glasgow Artists’ Moving Image Studios (GAMIS) are partnering with Govanhill Baths once again to deliver an exciting programme of film and moving image to the people of Govanhill. This year they’ve put together their most ambitious programme yet – which will be announced very soon! Last year proved that there was an appetite for classic cinema, community programming and film in Govanhill. Make sure to come to the feast!
The Microcinema :
Dates: 4-13th August
Location: The New Phoenix Cinema, Phoenix Warehouse, 138 Niddrie Road
This year, we’re delighted to reveal that screenings for the Film Festival will be held in not one but TWO venues. Introducing…the Microcinema. The Microcinema will run screenings, talks and events in the daytime and evening throughout the festival. The GAMIS Working Group, will launch the new Micro Cinema with a full day programme of screenings on August 4th. There will then be a whole host of events across the two week extravaganza; with events and screenings programmed by Romano Lav (Roma Voice) and Feminist Exchange Network! We’re also lucky enough to have Glasgow Southside based Finnish-British artist Hanna Tuulikki join us at the Microcinema for a screening of SEALS’KIN, (2022). Tuulikki will introduce her film and run a singing workshop as part of this event. This 19 minute short was GAMIS’ first production project and was recently screened at the Sydney Biennale.
The Bat Lab
Location: Bat.Lab, 49 Bankhall Street
The Bat. Lab is back! Fast becoming one of Govanhill’s favourite spots, this outdoor cinema was inspired by a desire to bring film and moving image to new audiences outside of the conventions of traditional cinema. This year is no different! GAMIS have been hard at work collaborating with Rumpus Room, G42.pop ups and Glasgow Zine Library to offer up an inspiring and unique programme which is not to be missed!
Full programme of screenings and events can be found here.
