Celebrating Cultural Diversity
With Crossroads Youth and Community Association
Date: Saturday 13th August, 11.00am – 3.00pm
Location: Barn Youth and Community Centre, 37 Abbotsford Place

Crossroads track record spans six decades supporting local people to create positive change, stimulating community empowerment and contributing to the regeneration of the Gorbals and Govanhill. Please join us at our new venue for a celebration of the cultural diversity of the southside. People will come together to share elements of their culture through art, dialogue, song and dress.

Roma Sisters Together!
Date: Sunday 07 August, 2.00pm – 4.00pm
Location: Govanhill Park

To mark the end of their 14 week wellbeing project ‘Roma Sisters Together’, Romano Lav are throwing a Roma fashion show party in the park! The women will be strutting their stuff and showing off their incredible clothing and accessories that they’ve made, taking traditional Romani clothing and giving it a modern twist! Featuring live music from local Roma musicians. Opre Roma!      

Banner-Making Workshop with Kengkeng
Date: Thursday 04 August, 2.00-6.00pm (No booking required)
Location: The Deep End, 21 Nithsdale Street, Courtyard

Ahead of the Govanhill Parade and Carnival there will be a banner making workshop at the Deep End with artist and activist Kengkeng. This will be a chance to get together and design, collage, sew and create banners that feel symbolic and reflective of your group and the community campaigns you are involved with. We can’t wait to see the powerful and beautiful banners you’ve made on full display on the Govanhill Carnival parade!
Storytelling Festival – Sky on A Hill
Date: Thursday 04 August, 4.00-7.30pm
Location: Hidden Gardens, (No Booking Required)

Join us for a series of storytelling events for kids in the afternoon followed by an evening of performances, readings, installations and workshops. In creating opportunities to share and listen to (contemporary) folktales between community and artists; ‘Sky of A Hill’ will reframe the value of oral storytelling and its connection to place. More info about times and locations for all storytelling events will be released soon!
Community Meal
In collaboration with Kin Kitchen

Please join us to celebrate the growing that we have been doing in the Carfin Street Gardens this summer! We would like to invite residents and the wider community to get together to share a community meal and hear a series of talks centred around food growing and sustainability in Scotland. We’d like to thank Kin Kitchen for collaborating with us to provide the meal for this event.
Women on Wheels
Govanhill Workspace, Unit 4, 69 Dixon Avenue, G42 8AT
Women on Wheels, the new women’s community cycling hub, has a whole host of events throughout the festival to check out! This passionate group of cyclists are encouraging local women and their families to get excited about cycling too! From women’s confidence building cycles and beginners lessons to women’s bike maintenance classes – you’ll find lots of inspirational events to get you off the fence about cycling and into a saddle as part of Govanhill International Festival.
Women on Wheels Open Day
Monday 08 August, 09.30am – 2.30pm
Join Women on Wheels on Monday 8th for our Open Day. Drop in to chat about all things cycling over tea and coffee from 09.30pm – 2.30pm. The day will also include beginners cycling lessons starting at 10am and 6.30pm with bikes and helmets provided £0-10. There will also be women’s confidence building cycles at 11.15am and 7.45pm £0-15). Everyone is welcome, whether you’re a seasoned rider or a newbie. 

Women on Wheels Bike Maintenance Class
Thursday 11th August, 6.30pm – 9.00pm
For all you cycling lovers and those curious – come along and get together with other women to take part in this bike maintenance class where you will learn how to do roadside repairs! Bring your own bike! £0-£25.
