We’re so excited to bring you this wonderful line-up of live performances from local talent and in partnership with wonderful creative organisations and collectives! All the money made in tickets covers technician costs for the events and anything left over is split between the performers on the night. We thank you for supporting our flourishing arts and performance scene and helping the artists continue to do what they do best: make incredible work. All events are ticketed on a sliding scale to ensure that everyone is able to attend without cost being a barrier.

Legendary queer cabaret show brings their gayest hits to the Rum Shack for the Govanhill International Festival! Queer Theory has been proudly showcasing LGBT+ talent since April 2016 bringing together a heady mix of music, performance art, spoken word, comedy, drag and variety with a focus on the subversive and experimental.

The lineup includes Pink Pound, Delia Badhand, Dorian T Fisk, David Ronan & Kirstin Halliday with more TBA.

‘Sounds like Govanhill’ is an evening of music and performance capturing the essences of Govanhill based on keen observations of a neighbourhood with its own unique character. Join us to hear music from Sean McGarvey, whose repertoire of original songs were composed using snippets of interviews with local people; speaking to the spirit and the diversity of this community and our love of a tall tale. He’ll be joined by a man who should need no introduction, Peter Mohan. Peter’s been hard at work recording his much-loved blog Cheers Govanhill over at glad.radio and we’re delighted to have him back at the festival reading excerpts to coincide with the launch of the podcast! Mohan’s wit and insight into the oddities of a place which is as weird as it is wonderful, is truly not to be missed.

‘C’mon, c’mon my dearie – tak my hand, my fiere!’ – Fiere, Jackie Kay
Join flos collective for Fiere; an immersive night of music, performance, spoken word and film by Glasgow based women and non-binary people. Inspired by Scottish poet Jackie Kay’s ‘Fiere;’ we will come together to celebrate the strength found in friendship and the family we choose for ourselves. This one is for our besties, our sisters and for ‘we who loved sae fiercely.’ After the success of our debut exhibition ENYA, which showcased the amazing work of nine-teen Glasgow based artists, and seeing our community begin to flourish through our Writing Circle, we are excited to share Fiere with you all.

‘Scotland may be my home… but Ireland is my country’.

This new play was inspired by the revolutionary and trade union leader Margaret Skinnider. Wounded fighting during the Easter Rising, Skinnider was an excellent markswoman and close friend of Constance Markiewicz; she was an active suffragette and went on to become the President of the Irish teachers’ union, whilst battling the authorities for decades to secure her war pension – denied to her as a woman.

This powerful, moving drama is the fruition of six years of research and a major part of the efforts to achieve the rightful place in history for the Coatbridge born Margaret Skinnider.

This is a rehearsed reading of Rebel Heart. (Running time: 60 minutes)
