A three day Festival of Palestinian life and culture will feature as part of the Govanhill Festival in August of this year. Film, poetry, photography and political analysis will all be on show on the weekend of 11th – 13 th August as the Network of Photographers for Palestine bring you a rich array of attractions. We will be serving delicious Palestinian food over the weekend too. So come and join us as we celebrate the richness and variety that is Palestinian culture today.

11.00 Ahmad Al Bazz : Nakba 75 – Ahmad will speak about his journey through occupied Palestine and the ‘48 documenting villages lost in the Nakba. His exhibition “Nakba 75.”

14.00. Songs in Arabic from SAN GHANNY, Edinburgh based singing group, together with readings from “A BIRD IS NOT A STONE” by Liz Lochhead, Iyad Hyatley, Ghazi Hussein, and readings from their own work by Iyad and Ghazi.
15.30 – “SKATEBOARDING PALESTINE” Owen Godbert will talk about his experiences volunteering in Palestine and teaching skateboarding there. His photo exhibition will be on show from Friday August 11th – Friday19th August.
SUNDAY, 13TH AUGUST, 11.00 – 5.00pm
11.00 “JERUSALEM AND THE UNITY INTIFADA” – Derek Newton. This presentation examines the multiple factors – the status of the Haram al Sharif, the re-zoning of the city, eviction and expulsion of Palestinian residents, settlement building, religious rivalry and persecution, conflicting roles and interests of international stakeholders – that overdetermine Jerusalem’s position in the struggle for Palestinian liberation.
