Govanhill Gambling with The Peoples Bank of Govanhill

Fri 16 Sep 2016| 8:00 pm- Sat 17 Sep 2016| 6:00 pm

The People’s Bank of Govanhill will be at the Baths this weekend with a pop-up “gambling” event.  Come along and try your luck – pledge favours and community action in return for People’s bank notes.

Ailie Rutherford of the Peoples Bank will be in the foyer at the Baths on Fri from 8pm at the launch of Kathy Hinde’s “Luminous Birds” exhibition in Kingarth Lane and back on Saturday from 5pm before the screening of “Sleaford Mods – Invisible Britain”.

The People’s Bank of Govanhill was intiated by artist Ailie Rutherford during her residency at Govanhill Baths in 2015

What began as a series of currency experiments and exchanges has grown into a long term project, mapping the local economy and expanding ideas of community currency to re-define our ideas of value, worth and distribution.

The appropriation and re-interpretation of JK Gibson-Graham’s “Economy as an Iceberg” diagram (from their book Take Back the Economy) has provided a useful metaphor in facilitating conversations about Govanhill’s thriving alternative economy.  For further information see https://thepeoplesbankofgovanhill.wordpress.com/
