Celebrating Kenmure Street: A Festival of Resistance
A Festival of Resistance: 13th – 14th May 2022
UPDATE: Click to view full festival programme!
On the morning of 13 May 2021, in the middle of Eid al-Fitr, two of our neighbours living on Kenmure Street in Pollokshields were taken from their home and detained by the Home Office in a van on the street. In response, neighbours and anti racists organised a spontaneous sit-in protest, surrounded the van and occupied the street for eight hours, until they were released in a historic victory for the community and antiracist campaigners across the country.
Now, on 13th & 14th May 2022, Pollokshields Trust/The Bowling Green, Pollokshields and Govanhill Baths Community Trust are inviting all community organisations, anti racist groups, activists and artists to join us to celebrate the anniversary of this unforgettable moment.
Join us! If you are on Kenmure Street why not hang a poster or banner or bunting! Open your garden or back court on the day with a talk or some music.
Let’s unite against racism and xenophobia, welcoming refugees and migrants to our communities and taking an unequivocal stand against Priti Patel’s barbaric and racist laws.
No one is illegal! We all Belong! Refugees are Welcome Here.
