Join us for this talk about the author of the well-loved books, Tommy’s War and Tommy’s Peace. The original diaries of Thomas Cairns Livingstone (1882 – 1964) were acquired for the city by Glasgow City Archives in autumn 2016. Archivist Barbara Neilson will introduce the diaries and share their content with you. Hear about Glasgow during the First World War and how rising rents, the threat of air raids and the war economy affected the city. Livingstone was originally born and brought up in Rutherglen, but moved to Glasgow as an adult. He worked as a mercantile book-keeper and shipping clerk for Paterson, Baxter and Company and was based at their headquarters in the city centre.
