Loved and Lost: Guided Tour of Govanhill

Sundays 23 & 30 August, 2:00 – 4:00pm
Fully Booked Sorry!

Take a walk around old Govanhill, with local historian Bruce Downie, author of Loved and Lost: Govanhill’s Built Heritage. Discover how a few miner’s cottages became the heart of Industrial Glasgow, how an area known to some as No Man’s Land became the Burgh of Govanhill and one of the most vibrant suburbs of Glasgow. Learn the history and heritage of a remarkable community and the people from around the world who made it their home, the rifle regiment that became a football team, cinemas and skating rinks, churches, mosques, synagogues and swimming pools. Limited spaces, donations welcome.

Govanhill Baths Archive Showcase

Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 August, 12:00 Noon – 5:00pm
The Deep End, 21 Nithsdale Street
Click for more details

Come along and discover the objects, documents, photographs, banners and audio-visual material, which tell the story of Govanhill Baths from its use as an Edwardian Baths and Wash-House, to its occupation by the Save Our Pool campaign and the development of the Govanhill Baths Community Trust. Bring along your own stories and share in our memory books.
