Pool Filmshow Went Swimmingly

Pool Filmshow Went Swimmingly

Posted: 18th May 2011 By John McCann

It was fantastic to be part of the inaugural Southside Film Festival.

We had been thinking for a while about putting films on in the Baths and had done small scale screenings as part of Sonic Soak, Deep Breaths and Doors Open Days.

We knew the Baths would be an unusual and intriguing venue and when we were approached by Karen O'Hare from the Southside Film Festival we were keen to be part of it. After discussing a few options it was clear that the screening had to be in the main pool, this turned out to be particularly effective during scenes in the Night Swimmer which were filmed in the pool just before it closed.

Frances' popcorn went down a storm and we raised £100 in donations. It was great to have proper equipment and thanks go to Dave from Cameron Presentations for providing it and to Alan and John, our resident techie volunteers for assistance.

The showing of Save Our Pool and Making Waves come at a significant point in the history of the campaign to re-open the Baths. These films show part of the journey the campaign has taken over the last ten years to reach the point of finally getting back into the building later in the summer.

We would like to thank Karen and the volunteers from the Southside Film Festival and we hope to be taking part in it again next year!
