Feet in the door!

Feet In The Door!

Posted: 19th Dec. 2011 By Andrew Johnson

The repair and refurbishment of the front suite of the baths has now been completed apart from a few technical details and we are just about ready to move our Administration Offices and Centre for Community Practice (CCP) into the building for the first Phase of the Development of our Wellbeing Centre. Already we have held three events as reported in our News section; the Lanarkshire Paranormal "visitation", the Citizen's Aladdin pantomime production and the launch of the superb film "Pool of Memories" produced with the Arches. After Christmas we will be able to begin the various programmes we have planned by the CCP, our Friends group and GBART. We also hope to have a drop-in space for refreshments and a range of other produce. Watch out for the date of the formal launch in late January/early February!

Our sincere thanks to our contractors who have guaranteed the work has been completed pretty well on time. They have always been helpful, considerate, friendly and supportive of our requests. They are; Kinnaird Construction and Thomson Electrics together with Patrik Lubos (who completed the strip out) - companies that we can most highly recommend that is for sure. Neither would this project have been completed without our sponsors, NORD Architecture! They secured the planning permission, arranged the building warrant and above all (a) produced all the necessary drawings and technical work (b) delivered a design vision for the foyer and kitchen/work space that is entirely sympathetic to the building. It has won high praise from everyone. (The transfer of the 1917 electric light lamps from the steamie to this front suite in particular catches the imagination). More than all this they have supervised all of the contractor's work ensuring it was accurate and delivered to specifications. City Property have continued to ensure that the various technical snags arising out of our using one part of the baths building have been dealt with smoothly and efficiently. Mostly these have had a financial "cost", sometimes considerable, but the work has been and is being done nevertheless. Again we have to thank the government's Equally Well Community Health scheme for the funding of the project and the Glasgow City Council for granting a licence to use the premises. Next year this licence converts to a lease and as from now we are exploring ways in which we can secure the premises for community ownership under the GCC's "transfer of assets" scheme.

So, as they say, a foot (if not feet) is/are now well and truly in the door!

A resident opposite the baths said: "Just seeing the lights on, people going in and out, Christmas decorations and the great new sign is a joy to behold! Thanks GB Trust"
